Would you like a venue to show and sell your work in the Main Street
neighbourhood? Are you interested in joining a friendly group of artists? Is your work highly marketable and interesting? Then we want you! Arts Off Main gallery is currently seeking submissions for a new artist/partner. We are a group of nine partner artists responsible for the running of the gallery. Each partner has a designated area in the gallery for showing their work and is free to select and display whatever they choose. We take turns staffing the gallery, about 2-3 full days per month each. There is a minimal monthly rent to pay for a convenient Main Street location and a buy-in cost in exchange for 100% of the sale of your work. We are looking for someone who works well with others and has a collaborative approach. Monthly meetings at the gallery allow us to catch up with each other and make collective decisions on the gallery's operations. We also use email to discuss a lot of topics. Our aims are to offer reasonably priced, good quality artwork and gifts as well as to participate in the community. We've raised donations for the Vancouver Food Bank for years and joined in Main Street merchants association activities. Application Process
Interview Artists whose work is approved by the partnership will be invited to bring in some of their work and meet with the Partnership Committee. This will give the gallery a chance to see the actual work and for the artist to meet some of the members and ask any questions they may have. A few facts:

Local businesses work together to support Food Bank & celebrate the holidays Seasonal splendour, and the spirit of giving, has arrived on Main Street in Vancouver as merchants collaboratively celebrate the holidays with hospitality, exciting gift ideas and unique holiday displays. All this while also helping to collect food donations for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. Flake Out on Main Street involves close to 30 different businesses who are all creating their own twist on celebrating the holidays in their respective locations. Shoppers are invited to visit all the participating businesses and vote on their favourite holiday display from December 15 to December 22nd and be eligible to win one of three spectacular prize baskets (each worth around $350). The draw will occur on December 22nd at Neptoon Records at 3:00pm (3561 Main Street). There will also be food boxes at each of the ballot locations for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. Each participating business has donated a gift certificate or small prize to be included in each of the baskets. Look for those with blue and white Flake Out on Main Street balloons in their display. Ballots can also be found at participating businesses and at all the ballot box locations: Plush (4296 Main), Bohemia Gallery (3243 Main), Neptoon Records & CDs (3561 Main), Arts off Main (216 East 28th), and On the Fringe Hair Design (4166 Main). Many businesses will also be open late, until 9pm, on Friday December 22nd to accommodate shoppers and celebrate the holidays. Come and celebrate Main Street’s favourite holiday tradition and Flake Out on Main Street. Don’t forget to vote for your favourite display! Bio Jennifer Harwood has self directed her art education by taking classes in drawing, composition and colour through Emily Carr College of Arts and Design, the Federation of Canadian Artists and through mentorship opportunities with Vancouver artist’s Val Nelson and Justin Ogilvie. Having had an interest in visual art at a young age, Jennifer took a detour to study and receive a BA in Contemporary Dance from Simon Fraser University. Jennifer’s next artistic venture led her to a diploma in Graphic Design. Wanting to get back into visual art, she started to get involved with the Vancouver Art Guild and the Federation of Canadian Artists, which she is now an Associate member. The most enjoyable part of painting for her is the experience of putting paint and brush to canvas. Her paintings play with bold colour and creatively interpreting the elements of her subject in an abstract way. |
