THOMAS KERO
Before returning to Vancouver in 2021, Tom spent 18 years living in remote northern and western Canada, including the Western Arctic, the T’silcot’in, and in the Heiltsuk Territory of Bella Bella, known as “The Great Bear Rainforest” where he’s made deep connections with the land and culture. He continues to teach and provide art workshops with Heiltsuk youth.
Thomas works in various two and three-dimensional media but is currently focusing on painting and relief printing. His work is rooted in geographical place and in personal experience. He is inspired by both the remote parts of BC and his current home of East Vancouver. He is interested in the subjective, individual perception of the world, as expressed through art media.
Thomas has a BFA from UBC. He shows regularly at the Federation Gallery on Granville Island, has attended residencies in Ucluelet, Galiano Island, and was a feature artist Revelstoke Art Gallery, Glacier National Park “Art in the Park” residency exhibit. He shows annually at the West Coast Wild exhibit in Victoria. He has created several murals and has led professional development workshops for the BC Art Teacher Association.
