What is Boulevard Days and How Can You Participate

On Saturdays and/Sundays during the summer months, Arts off Main offers wall and boulevard space outside the gallery for artists who’d like to display and sell their work. Any medium is acceptable providing it meets with the approval of the A off M collective. We charge only 25% commission, and we can process your sales through our store. Lee Sanger recently had two images out of a field of over 800 images selected for exhibition at the Professional Photographers of Canada's National 2015 Salon Image competition, held March 27th and 28th. While her image” Phantom Goose of the Forbidden Forest" was selected for exhibition, her image " Aqua Ballet" received the honour of Merit status.

In addition to being a photographer, Lee is an internationally qualified judge. In fact, she is the second person in Canada to earn a National Accreditation in Fine Art Photography from the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC), and she holds four other accreditations. Those include the designations of  "Master of Photographic Arts" and "Service of Photographic Arts” awarded by PPOC, as well as her “Fellowship of Photography” from the Professional Photographers of British Columbia, now known as PPOC-BC.  She will be awarded a third gold bar to her Master's designation this year.

 As a qualified international photography judge she believes that it's important to walk the walk not just talk the talk, which is why she continues to enter image competitions when she isn't judging.

Find gifts for everyone on your holiday list from the treasures at Arts off Main. Buy holiday cookies, and the proceeds will go to the Food Bank. You could also drop off non-perishable items for the Food Bank during the annual “Flake Out on Main Street” event, which takes place November 22nd to the 29th.  This year Flake Out will culminate with the “Shop the Neighbourhood” event on November 29th.  Join us on the 29th for cookies and hot apple cider and put your name in for a draw for a gift basket comprised of beautiful items created by the local artists of Arts off Main.  You will also receive a free fine art card with your purchase, and 10% of all sales that day will be donated to the Food Bank.

While the Flake Out and Shop the Neighbourhood events will be over November 29th, to make the most of our customers' and neighbours' generosity during the holiday season, Arts off Main will continue to sell cookies and collect donations and non-perishable food up until December 22nd. So please drop by and help make the season joyous for everyone in the community!

During sunny summer weekends between July and September,  Arts Off Main will once again be hosting "Boulevard Days".  Artists from  all mediums are invited to participate in one day event by showcasing their work outside the gallery. Each Boulevard day may feature one or more artists and some of the artists will be giving live demonstrations of their creative process. Be sure to check the website for dates and featured artists. Then stop by and join the fun.

Would you like a venue to show and sell your work in the Main Street neighbourhood? Are you interested in joining a friendly group of artists? Do you work in a 2-D media? Is your work highly marketable and interesting? Then we want you!

Arts Off Main gallery is currently seeking submissions for a new artist/partner. We are a group of nine partner artists responsible for 
the running of the gallery. Each partner has a designated area in the gallery for showing their work and is free to select and display whatever they choose.

We take turns staffing the gallery, about 2-3 full days per month each. There is a minimal monthly rent to pay for a convenient Main Street location and a  buy-in cost in exchange for 100% of the sale of your work. 

We are looking for someone who works well with others and has a  
collaborative approach. Monthly meetings at the gallery allow us to catch 
up with each other and make collective decisions on the gallery's 
operations. We also use email to discuss a lot of topics. 

Our aims are to offer reasonably priced, good quality artwork and gifts as well as to participate in the community. We've raised donations for the 
Vancouver Food Bank for years and joined in Main Street merchants association activities.

Application Process

• All submissions will be juried by the existing partnership


• Art work should be interesting and of high  quality


• 3D work only is being accepted at this time.


• Only submit artwork that you that you feel would be a good fit to sell in the gallery. This is very important as we like to achieve a balance between all artists' work and need to know exactly what you plan to sell. We aim to offer our clients a variety of styles, media and techniques. • Only submissions sent by the online application will be considered. The application form can be found in tab  Partner Application


• Please understand that we cannot respond to every submission. Only artists who will be offered a partnership will be 
  contacted.

Interview

Artists whose work is approved by the partnership will be invited to bring in some of their work and meet with the Partnership Committee. This will give the gallery a chance to see the actual work and for the artist to meet some of the members and  ask any questions they may have.

A few facts:

• Arts Off Main is a co-operative gallery of nine artists who show and sell their work through the gallery.


• Each partner brings a unique aspect to the gallery.


• Partners pay an initial fee to join, pay monthly rent and are responsible to staff the gallery 2-3 days a month.


• Partners receive 100% of the sales of their work.

Artist Bio

Julie McIntyre studied at the Banff Centre, Alberta in 1986 and received her BFA from Queen’s University with a major in printmaking. She has had solo shows in 19 public galleries in Canada and participated in well over 40 juried exhibitions, including 21 international credits to date. Julie has taught workshops across Canada and is an artist in residence with the Vancouver School Board and ArtStarts.

Artist Statement

This small selection from Julie McIntyre’s Collecting Stories series celebrates activities that we choose to spare time for that are initiated for pleasure and enrich our lives without concern for financial compensation. This series is also the artist’s homage to hobbyists whose commitment and accomplishments may be unfairly dismissed as “amateur” precisely because they are not concerned with monetary gain. We should not discount their developing techniques and often life-long learning that follows their passion, nor their financial contributions. If it was not for scrapbookers, for instance, Julie would never have had the variety and affordability of designer papers to work with, or an audience that understands what it takes to make these paper quilts.  Collecting Stories is the artist’s thank you to your passion in its purest form. Just for the love of making is admirable.
