Arts Off Main gallery is participating with other Main Street merchants this year for the "flakiest" window display! Come out to Main Street to enjoy the displays and vote for your favourite one. You'll find a list of participating businesses below. Just look for the blue and white Flake Out balloons at each store. With every vote, your name is entered in a draw to win an incredible prize basket that includes gift certificates and prizes from each of the participating businesses. Arts Off Main Gallery, and many other Main Street shops, will also be collecting food for the Vancouver Food Bank. Please take the time to support us in helping those in need and bring in a non-perishable food item. Last weekend alone we filled two boxes with food! The event runs from December 3rd to December 18th, with the final draw being held at On The Fringe Hair Design (4166 Main St.) on December 18th at 4pm. Arts Off Main artist Jennifer Harwood Reception Sunday, September 11, 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm Havana Gallery 1212 Commercial Drive, Vancouver Sept 4th - 17th, 2011 We've switched up the walls at Arts Off Main -- lots of new art and new cards in stock. Riitta Peirone is working on a new series of paintings called "Passages" seen here. Some pieces are too large for the gallery but see them on-line.
With the down turn in the economy, even more families are finding it hard to make ends meet. The winter months are especially hard and it’s more important than ever that we extend a helping hand to our neighbours. Most people who receive food from the Vancouver Food Bank Society are working poor – folks who work hard but just can’t make their paychecks stretch far enough; and over 40% of the Food Bank’s clients are children. We at Arts Off Main are trying to do our bit by donating 10% of all sales from February 9th to 14th to the Vancouver Food Bank Society.
You can also help in our quest to feed the hungry by dropping by Arts off Main with a donation of non-perishable food; buy some Valentine’s cookies or make a cash donation. Of course you could always buy some art, too! Every dollar that goes to the Food Bank translates into $3.00 worth of buying power at the wholesalers so they can buy fresh vegetables and perishable food. We hope that you can help us make this event a huge success. The new year is off to a great start with a kick-off meeting hosted by Eileen. We all enjoyed great food and conversation and welcomed the chance to meet together "off site" to plan for next year. Lots of great ideas were discussed for events and promotions throughout 2011. Number one is a revamp of our website - the result of which you see here! We'll also be posting new work to our Flickr site and Facebook so sign-up for updates on those sites if you'd like to be kept informed of new work. You can also sign-up for our email list to receive timely notices in your in-box. And if you've had enough of looking at art online, just come in and see us! We'd love to see you. Here's to a great 2011!
